Electric bikes (also referred to as e-bikes) have provided riders that don’t enjoy the rigorous intensity of mountain biking an opportunity to get outdoors, enjoy nature without overdoing it. E-bikes are also becoming more and more popular on bikeways, streets, and bike-friendly cities.
The best electric bike for a short female is the Heybike Mars Electric Bike because the seat allows for riders as short as 5’3″ the low frame is easy to step in and out of, and the 20-inch fat tires are perfect for shorter riders. It’s perfect for off-road adventures, weekend spins around the city, and everything in between.
If you’ve never been on an electric bike they are a bit bulkier and significantly heavier than a normal mountain bike or cruiser. And if you’re a short female or have shorter legs compared to your torso, finding an e-bike that will fit you and make it easy to use, get on/off and control can be difficult.
If for any reason the aforementioned e-bike doesn’t suit you, I’ve put together a list of electric bikes for short females that could be good alternatives. Below is also a buying guide or features of electric bikes you should familiarize yourself with, before making a purchase.

Buying Guide for Electric Bikes
Weight of Electric Bikes
As I mentioned above e-bikes offer a ton of convenience and features for those that aren’t looking to overly-exert themselves. I love mountain biking but climbing over 1,000 feet of elevation or more can really get the heart going. Similarly, a longer incline might be more effort than you want. This is where e-bikes come in, right? Well, these e-bikes can provide a ton of assistance but it comes at a cost. And that cost is weight.
The frames on e-bikes could be steel, aluminum, carbon fiber, or other material. But it’s not uncommon for a bike to weigh 50+ pounds. So if you’re smaller in stature or petite woman, handling some of these bikes could be a challenge. Obviously, the lighter the bike the more maneuverable it will be, and easier to handle.
So take a look at how heavy the bike is before making a decision. Take into account your personal strength, particularly if you’ll be living the bike in and out of RV’s, over rocks, or up/down steps.
Consider The Features
Ranges – E-bikes have different ranges on how far they go, top speeds, the time it takes to charge the batteries, weight, tire width, suspensions, and more. If your main reason for getting an e-bike is sore joints or rehabilitation you might want something with several different gears or speed assist.
Compact – If you’re looking to put your e-bike in an RV or vehicle then a foldable bike that is compact might fit better. Also, some people don’t need to go excessively fast and a slower cruise that’s capable of more miles is appropriate.
Charge time – The charge time on bikes can range from few hours to over 6+ hours. If you use your bike in short spurts frequently, then a shorter charge time might be needed. If you’re using it a bit more sparingly then a longer charge time won’t inconvenience you.
Handlebars – Finally, shorter riders tend to have shorter limbs too. Being able to adjust the seat height down to a level that is comfortable riding along with adjusting the handlebars so you’re not over-extending will make your e-bike funner to ride. Handlebar width is important too. Having your arms extended out past your shoulders too far can get uncomfortable.
Load Capacity – The weight capacity of electric bikes is another feature you need to look at. Some of the aforementioned bikes can carry riders over 300 lbs with ease. Others have a load capacity of 250 pounds. If you have baskets full of items or if you’re carrying a backpack while you ride, be sure to know the max load the bike can safely carry.
What E-Bike Tire Size Is Best?
The bigger the tire, the higher up off the ground you’ll be. Wheels that are 26″ or smaller are typically recommended for shorter riders.
What Frame Size Should I Get?
Bike usually come in small, medium, and large frames to accommodate a wide variety of riders. Electric bikes can follow this suite or they may offer a high and low step frame. The lower the step frame, the easier it is for a shorter rider to get on and off the bike.
What Seat Height Is Best For A Short Rider?
The seat height for shorter riders will vary. A person that is 5’2″ can have different inseam lengths, so the right seat height might be different. Here is a graph showing average seat heights based on your height.
Wrapping Up Electric Bikes For Short Females
Sitting on a spin bike or doing an indoor cycle class can get boring and isn’t for everyone. Getting outdoors has multiple benefits and getting an electric bike can help you get exercise and some fresh air without overdoing it. Electric bikes can be great for exploring, telecommuting, exercise, and just having fun. Shorter riders have a lot of features they need to consider before making a purchase. I hope the guide and electric bikes above help you in your decision-making process.
If you’re looking for a wider selection of electric bikes check out Ride1up.com. They are an up-and-coming vendor getting a ton of rave reviews!
Highly annoying that this list includes a bike that starts at 5’4″ even in women’s clothing that would not be the petite size. I am 5’0″ and at this point probably 4’11” not a single bike on this list will work for anyone my height and there are a lot of 5 footers out there and many less than 5 foot.
I agree and wish there were more bikes off the shelf that could accommodate riders of your height. There are bike companies that are more customizable that may work for you -> https://www.sixthreezero.com/?rfsn=6570081.ac43c5 but may cost a bit more. Good luck!
