The Peloton bike is a game-changer in the fitness industry. It’s revolutionized indoor bikes and cardio fitness. It has all the bells and whistles, but it comes at a price point. So even if you’re interested in getting one, you need to find out what is the minimum height to use a peloton bike. If you’re willing to pay the price for the Peloton you want to make sure you can make all the right adjustments to fit your height.
According to Peloton support, “The Peloton Bike can support riders up to 297 lbs and fit riders between 4′ 11″ and 6′ 5“. But this is strictly guidance. People have different torso lengths, arm lengths, and leg lengths, so this could affect your usability.
In this post, I’ll discuss who should use Peloton bikes, the dimensions, and the specifications of the bike, so you can determine if the Peloton is right for you. I’ll also point out some alternatives if you decide the Peloton is out of your price range or just not right for you.
Let’s first look at the Peloton exercise bike.
Peloton Bike Dimensions
The Peloton bike is about 4’x2′ (Total: 59″ L x 53″ H x 23″ W). The seat dimensions are 6.5 in. x 10.5 in. With these dimensions, it’s recommended to have a minimum ceiling height of 8 feet. The total weight including the HD Touchscreen is about 135lbs.
Peloton Seat Height Adjustments
If you find that you fall within the minimum height range it’s recommended you set the seat height at your hip bone height. This will serve as a good starting point. If you feel that you’re still over or underextended, you can make adjustments from there.
The forward and backward of the seat can be adjusted too. If you have a shorter torso, you might need to move the seat as close to the handlebars as possible to ensure a comfortable ride. If you have a longer torso but shorter legs, you might not need to move the seat as close to the handlebars.
Peloton Handlebar Adjustments
The handlebars on the Peloton are also adjustable. The handlebars are more for comfort vs adjusting for height. It’s suggested you start with the handlebars all the way up and then move them to fit your desired comfort.
Here is a quick video they provide on all the adjustments the Peloton is capable of providing.
The Peloton bike is capable of making exercise feel more like entertainment and this is one of the biggest selling points of the bike. At the time of this post, the gyms and indoor bike classes aren’t exactly the safest places to exercise right now, due to the Covid pandemic. If you’re looking for some home exercise equipment specifically an indoor exercise bike the Peloton might be the answer. Once you’ve purchased your Peloton and are looking for other riders with tips and tricks about how short riders get the most out of their Peloton, look into the “shortietribe” Facebook group. There’s a ton of riders that are providing other “lifehacks” and feedback from fellow short riders.
Minimum Ceiling Height For Peloton Bike
As I mentioned above the Peloton support suggests a minimum ceiling height of 8 feet. According to at least one forum and other riders, this minimum height is very conservative. Other riders have a ceiling height of around 7 feet and they say it works just fine. If you’re planning on doing some overhead weight workouts while riding then a higher ceiling is necessary.
Peloton Bike Alternative
Peloton bikes have all the latest technology and just about all the features you could dream of. However, the Peloton cost is $2,245 without any accessories. This is a nice chunk of change for an indoor exercise bike. Again, I’m not disputing its capabilities, I’m just saying you’ll pay for them too.
If you’re like me, the price will almost always be a “make or break” point for a service or product. And that’s why I want to discuss at least one Peloton bike alternative.
